A 20-year-old is accused of assaulting a New York State Police trooper during a pro-Palestine protest/encampment at a college campus. The event was being held in the Hudson Valley, in Ulster County, at SUNY New Paltz on Thursday, May 2, and the state police were requested to respond. Deputy County Executive In Region Busted Driving Drunk, Police Say
A deputy county executive in the region is accused of driving drunk. Albany County Deputy Executive Michael McLaughlin was arrested on suspicion of DWI following a traffic stop in the town of Colonie on Wednesday, May 1. New York State Police said McLaughlin was stopped on I-87 at around 11:20 p.m. and refused to provide a sample to determine his blood alcohol content. Man Sexually Assaults Paramedic At VA Hospital In Region, Feds Say
A man from the region is facing federal charges after allegedly sexually assaulting a paramedic at a Veterans Affairs hospital. Rensselaer County resident Robert Seifert, age 65, of Troy, was arraigned in Albany federal court on Tuesday, April 9. Prosecutors said Seifert grabbed the paramedic’s breast and groin at the Albany Stratton Veterans Affairs Medical Center. It was not immediately clear when the alleged assault occurred. If convicted, he could spend up to two years in federal prison and a fine of up to $250,000.

A man from the region was killed in a single-vehicle crash after his SUV veered off the roadway, hit a pole, and rolled over. Two inmates at a Hudson Valley jail have been charged with new crimes while behind bars. Dutchess County residents William Green Jr., age 30, of Poughkeepsie, and Craig Albrecht, age 41, of East Fishkill, were charged on Wednesday, May 1. According to Capt. Hopewell Junction Man Struck, Killed By Pickup Truck
A 39-year-old Hudson Valley man was struck and killed by a Dodge Ram pickup truck while standing on a roadway in Connecticut. The crash occurred in Hartford County around 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7, on I-91 north of the Exit 46 on-ramp in Enfield. According to the Connecticut State Police, Dutchess County resident TJ Jennings of Hopewell Junction was standing in the highway's right lane when struck by the truck. Classes were in session when a 16-year-old allegedly set fire to a high school in the region. The Albany County incident happened Tuesday, April 23, at Bethlehem High School. According to Bethlehem Police, the juvenile suspect intentionally started a fire in a school bathroom in the C wing. An attempted traffic stop on a highway in the region ended with a deputy’s patrol car rammed and the alleged culprit in handcuffs.
